Lebanon is a country that has been heavily ridden with political and economic unrest for decades. In October 2019, the people took to the streets to protest the injustices they had been suffering. Their peaceful cries were met with violence from the government that was meant to protect them. The turmoil was fueled by the Global Pandemic in 2020 as the Lebanese people continued to suffer from poverty, distress, and depression.
On August 4, 2020, the unthinkable happened. One of the largest non-nuclear explosions in history destroyed Beirut’s port and shook the entire country killing over 200 people, wounding over 7,000 people, and left countless others with permanent disabilities. The people of Lebanon were left to pick up the broken pieces of their already broken country.
According to the United Nations, currently more than 80 percent of the country’s citizens do not have basic rights, including health, education, and an adequate standard of living, such as running water and electricity. The Lebanese currency has lost 90 percent of its value since October 2019, deterring people’s ability to access basic goods, including food, water, health care, and education. Fuel shortages have caused widespread electricity blackouts, leaving much of the country in darkness for several hours per day. As a result, hospitals, schools, and bakeries have struggled to operate amid these energy shortages – forcing several businesses to permanently close.
In an effort to ease the pain of these everyday struggles, the Maronite Sisters of the Holy Family have been providing medication, food supplies, and paying tuition for families that can no longer afford to educate their children. With your donations and support, we can continue to strengthen the family unit in Lebanon to keep them together with dignity and hope.

The Maronite Sisters of the Holy Family provide food boxes that include rice, sugar, salt, pasta, garbanzo beans, powdered milk, tuna, ketchup, cheese, and beans. Your generous gift of $35 will provide this food box which can feed a family of four for one month.
Because of inflation and the rapid loss in value of the Lebanese currency, those in need of medication for health issues such as diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol, etc. no longer have access to their daily medicine. Your generous gift of $50 can provide an individual with medication for one month.
As the crisis in Lebanon continues to grow, families are no longer able to send their children to school and provide them with basic education. Your generous gift of $75 will pay for one month of tuition for one child - ensuring a brighter future.
Hope for Lebanon
